About Inner Strength Pilates
Hello, I’m Lucy
I’m a Pilates teacher with a background in Occupational Therapy, a mum of two, and someone who genuinely believes that movement can change how we feel, inside and out.
I’ve been teaching Pilates for 14 years now, and I still absolutely love it. Before that, I worked for 12 years as an Occupational Therapist in settings like pain management, oncology, and palliative care. It taught me so much — not just about how the body works, but what people need emotionally and physically to feel supported and well.
My own journey with Pilates began after the birth of my first daughter. It was a tough recovery after a long labour and C-section, and returning to work left me feeling burnt out and unwell. I turned to Pilates during that time because it was the only kind of movement that didn’t exhaust me — in fact, it made me feel better. It was gentle, grounding, and helped me rebuild strength without pushing my body too hard.
Looking back now, I wish I’d given myself more grace. As a woman in her late 40s, I know just how much pressure we put on ourselves to bounce back or ‘keep going’. Pilates gave me space to reconnect with my body and heal in a way that felt safe and empowering.
Why I Love Pilates — and Why It Might Be Just What You Need
I genuinely believe Pilates is the best form of movement for building strength and supporting your body — especially if you’re dealing with injuries, health conditions, or just haven’t exercised in a while.
A lot of the women I work with have spent years looking after others. They often come to me feeling unsure about joining a class — worried they don’t have enough fitness or won’t be able to move in certain ways. But the beautiful thing about Pilates is that it meets you exactly where you are. There’s no need to already be flexible or fit — we build those things together, gently and gradually.
What makes Pilates so powerful is the mind-body connection. It teaches you to tune in to your body — to feel what’s going on, rather than ignoring it. When we focus on each movement, we start to quiet the background noise of our busy minds and really listen to ourselves again.
What I Wish Everyone Knew About Pilates
Pilates isn’t just for princesses in fancy leggings with green smoothies! I know social media can give the impression that you need a coordinated outfit, a certain body shape, or a matcha latte to join in — but honestly, none of that matters.
What does matter is how the movement feels in your body. If you’re not feeling the right muscles working, that’s where I come in. It might be something as simple as a slight tweak in your position or needing a bit more guidance on where to focus. My job is to help you connect with your body so that Pilates truly works for you.g
Final Thoughts
Pilates has helped me through some tough times — and it continues to support me every day. Whether you're starting fresh, returning after a break, or dealing with pain or fatigue, I’d love to help you discover what it can do for you too.
You don’t need to be strong, flexible, or coordinated to begin — just willing to start.
