Will online Pilates work for me?
In today’s fast-paced world, finding time for self-care and exercise can be a challenge.
One of the most significant advantages of online Pilates classes is the convenience they offer. You can choose the time that suits you best, whether it’s early in the morning before the day starts, during a lunch break, or in the evening after work. There’s no need to worry about commuting, parking (often a challenge when attending my in person classes in Broughty Ferry!) or coordinating schedules.
Exercising at home allows you to create a comfortable environment where you feel at ease.
You can wear what you like, set the temperature to your preference, and even customise your workout space. This level of comfort can enhance your overall workout experience. With the flexibility to fit classes into your schedule, it’s easier to maintain a consistent exercise routine. This consistency is key to achieving long-term Pilates goals. Goals don’t have to be anything grand maintaining flexibility and strength might be all you are looking for. Online classes eliminate many of the barriers that can disrupt a regular workout schedule, such as bad weather or unexpected errands.
Online Pilates classes can be more affordable than attending classes in my studio. You save money on travel expenses and often have access to a variety of classes. This makes it a cost-effective option for those looking to prioritise their health without breaking the bank.
Getting Started with Online Pilates Embarking on your Pilates journey from home is easier than ever.
Here are a few tips to help you get started.
Choose an online platform that offers high-quality Pilates classes led by certified instructors (I am!).
Look for reviews and recommendations to ensure you’re getting the best experience. I have reviews on google and on my facebook page
Decide where you are going to do your class and have everything handy, all you need to begin with is a mat and some cushions. Set up a small area in your home where you can comfortably practice Pilates, with enough space to move freely (as long as there is space for your mat and you can stretch your arms and legs out without bumping anything, you have enough space).
Start Slow and Build Up. If you’re new to Pilates, start with the Beginner package and gradually progress to more advanced levels. Listen to your body and give yourself time to adapt to the movements.
If you have an injury or are not sure if you will be able to do the exercises correctly without an instructor, please come in for an individual session first so that we can tailor a plan to suit you and meet your rehabilitation, or fitness goals.
Stay Consistent Make a commitment to regular practice. Consistency is key to experiencing the full benefits of Pilates. Set aside specific times each week for your workouts and stick to them, if you are not feeling up to it one day, try doing just 5 mins. If you miss a session don’t give yourself a hard time just set plenty of reminders to get back to it.
The rise of online Pilates classes offers a convenient and effective solution for staying fit and healthy without leaving the comfort of your home. As a Pilates instructor and business owner, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative benefits of Pilates, and I’m excited to share how online classes can make these benefits accessible to everyone.

Here are five tips to help you stay consistent with your home workouts:
Set a Schedule
Choose specific days and times for your workouts and stick to them. Treat these appointments with yourself as non-negotiable, just like you would a meeting or a doctor’s appointment. – **Use reminders**: Set alarms or calendar notifications to remind you of your workout times. This helps to create a habit and reduces the likelihood of skipping sessions.
Create a Dedicated Workout Space
Having a dedicated space for exercise, even if it’s just a corner of a room, helps to mentally prepare you for your workouts. Keep your mat, weights, and any other equipment in this area to make it easy to get started. – **Minimise distractions**: Ensure your workout space is free from distractions such as TVs, phones, or other interruptions. This will help you stay focused and make the most of your workout time.
Set Realistic Goals
Begin with achievable goals to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Whether it’s a certain number of sessions per week or mastering a particular exercise, setting attainable targets will keep you motivated. – **Track your progress**: Keep a workout journal or use an app to log your workouts. Seeing your progress over time can be incredibly motivating and can help you stay on track.
Mix Up Your Routine
Incorporate different types of workouts to keep things interesting. Mix Pilates with cardio, strength training, or yoga. This not only keeps your routine fresh but also challenges different muscle groups and prevents boredom. – **Try new classes**: Many online platforms offer a variety of classes and instructors. Experiment with different styles and levels to find what you enjoy most.
Find an Accountability Partner
Partner with a friend or family member to exercise together, even if it’s virtually. Having someone to share your fitness journey with can provide mutual encouragement and accountability. – **Join online communities**: Many fitness platforms have communities or forums where you can connect with others. Sharing your progress, challenges, and successes with a supportive group can boost your motivation and keep you committed. Staying consistent with home workouts requires a bit of planning and dedication, but by incorporating these tips, you’ll be well on your way to making fitness a regular part of your routine.
Happy exercising!
